How does Cymbalta work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?
Duloxetine belongs to a group of drugs called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. The drug also mildly affects the reuptake of another neurotransmitter called dophamine and does not affect histaminergic, dopaminergic, cholinergic and adrenergic receptors. The drug works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine as a result the serotoninergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission is elevated. The drug also works by increasing the pain limit in pain syndrome of neuropathic etiology.
